Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: BUTTE Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: Forest or Resource Area: DEERLODGE Owner: N Impact: Report: Ready Cash A skarn was the target of this property, which contains a caved 100 foot shaft and an open 35 foot shaft (Sahinen, 1950). Quartz, tremolite, garnet, epidote, diopside, and secondary copper minerals are present in a north striking, west dipping shear zone in metamorphosed Mission Canyon/Madison formation. Granitic rock is exposed a few hundred feet away. Sahinen (1950) took an ore sample which ran 0.20 oz/ton gold, 1.3 oz/ton silver, and 5.23% copper. Open shaft approximately 30 feet deep. Sounded like mud in the bottom when a rock was tossed into the hole. Country rock is marble, ore is copper in a fault zone (?). Poor-looking material. |
