This summary describes how the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology treats personal information collected during the use of our websites.

Information Collection and Use

MBMG collects personal information whenever a user registers a user name on the website http://data.mbmg.mtech.edu. Information requested is name, address, city, state, zip code, phone number, fax number, E-mail address, and customer type.

The MBMG servers automatically collect and record information from a user's web browser and retain it in the server's logs. Information collected contains the IP address, date and time of visit, and the page(s) requested. The public-site logging is standard to all HTML web servers. MBMG does not use cookies stored on the user's computer to maintain user information.

Every time a user logs in (creates a session), MBMG collects the user’s account name, information about the user's proposed use of data, and the quantity and type of data retrieved.

MBMG staff use the collected information to conduct internal statistical analysis of user types, data use, and other factors that help determine how well MBMG's services meet user needs. Compiled (anonymous) statistics may be reported to outside agencies as part of a research or legislative request.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

MBMG does not share, rent, or sell the personal information we collect to anyone.

Cookies

MBMG does not set cookies on a user's computer. MBMG uses session cookies which are destroyed when the browser application is exited.

Well Log Data

The information contained on the well log form is considered public information.
