Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: DEERLODGE Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010201 Forest or Resource Area: DEERLODGE Owner: N Impact: Report: Snow Bunny (Majestic) Emmons and Calkins (1913) and Avery (1983) both describe this mine in some detail. One caved adit investigates a mineralized shear zone 2.1 feet thick in granodiorite of the Royal Stock. The zone strikes N55W 60SW and may extend for over a mile under glacial deposits to the Queen Mine on the SE and the J.G. Carlisle on the NW. Above the adit, four shallow shafts trace a splay of the main zone for 1100 feet. The zones contain clay gouge and quartz-sericite-pyrite veinlets. Avery (1983) estimated that their are 49,000 tons of inferred marginal reserves averaging .09 oz/ton Au and .25 oz/ton Ag. Today the adit discharges 1-2 gpm of water which precipitates iron hydroxides. About 1000 tons of dump material are present, and most is unaltered granodiorite. Ten percent is iron-stained granodiorite and quartz-sericite-pyrite vein. |
