Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010201 Forest or Resource Area: GARNET Owner: B Impact: U Report: Denver PO004645 The Denver mine is located immediately to the east of the Fairview but is on BLM land. No open workings or environmental concerns were noted. One adit (trending N10oE), was at least 35' and possibly up to 100' or more long, is presently completely caved. Several shafts/ prospects are also caved and have 8"-10" Douglas fir trees growing in them. A second, lower adit, may have been driven to intersect the shaft but caving has obscured the relationship. Dumps are composed of quartzite, with lesser intrusive waste and vein material (quartz, pyrite, tarnished sulfides). Pardee and Schrader, 1933 describe this as a four-foot vein in quartzite, with the vein of country-rock breccia cemented and silicified with pyritiferous quartz containing specks of tetrahedrite. Assays from a dump grab sample (PODN-1) ran 0.020 opt Au, 5.72 opt Ag, 0.004% Cu, 0.012% Pb, and 0.003% Zn. |
