Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: NINEMILE Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010204 Forest or Resource Area: LOLO Owner: M Impact: U Report: Mostly private with patented placer claims surrounded by Forest. Placer gold mined from an open cut with a screen deck and sluice. Placer gravel consists of Quaternary alluvium. Operated in the 1990's by Richard Beeman (McCulloch, 2001). Lower Quartz Creek active in 2009 through late summer by John Hageman and son; all disturbances reclaimed after known reserves exhausted (McCulloch, 2010). "Near Superior, Hageman Construction completed mining for placer gold on the Calumet claim in Quartz Creek and has now moved to lower Quartz Creek. They are finding good values in gravels adjacent to previously mined ground." McCulloch 2010. |
