Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: SUPERIOR Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010204 Forest or Resource Area: LOLO Owner: M Impact: U Report: Windfall Creek Placer was screened out because it was a placer and no environmental problems were anticipated. Lyden (1948) stated that the gold from Windfall Creek was exceptionally pure. The source was probably gold-bearing veins of the lode mines in the area. Lyden also stated that placering commonly involved hydraulicking and sluicing. The Windfall Creek placers were the largest producer of gold in the district. It is located near the section lines of sec 20 and 29, T.15N., R.26W. Windfall Creek drains into Trout Creek from the south. Although the accuracy in MILS was +/-10 m, the location is general; it is also located in secs. 19, 28, 29, 33, T.15N., R.26W. |
