Report: This site was visited on 08/23/01 by MBMG staff. No open adits or environmental problems were noted. Three adits and other prospects were found. They generally trended N.50W. to N.70W. The host rock was an altered diorite dike with locally intense iron staining. A totally collapsed adit was north of (practically on) the road and a second adit was directly above it. A recent claim notice was nailed to a tree in a plastic bag, but was not accessible. The upper, collapsed adit (or open cut) had a large pile of rock from the quartz vein on the dump. All were completely collapsed and dry. Quartz veins contained pyrite and were heavily iron stained (with "cube iron"). There was one old ore car and some iron tracks remained at the third, lowermost adit (downhill from the road).Memoir 15 (1935) listed the property under the name "Gold Hill Mine" as well as Gold Mountain Mines, Inc. At that time, the property consisted of a 400-ft adit and open cuts. The mill used the amalgamation process with a Wilfley table for concentration. Gold Mountain Mines was noted in MBMG Memoir 31 (1975) when it consisted of 1,000 ft of tunnels, and two open pits. It also had a 50-ton per day flotation mill associated with it and was last operated in 1939. According to Memoir 31, it was acquired in 1931 by Gold Mountain Mines, Inc. but was originally located in 1904. The gold and silver ore was contained in the pyrite.
