Report: The New Lenore mine plots in sec. 04, T.17N., R.29W. on the De Borgia South 7.5-min. quadrangle. Several adits were located when the area was visited on 07/11/01. The upper adit, located in a large open cut south of the two-track road southwest of Forest Route 1185 and northeast of the cabin associated with the mine, had a small seep associated with it. The flow produced seeped into the ground and was not large enough to be sampled. The adit strikes N.15 W. and is almost totally collapsed and buried by rock from the highwall. The opening is 1' by 6' and is not accessible. The workings in this area explored salt and pepper textured intrusives in grey-green argillites. Massive, 2 to 3 ft wide white quartz veins with cubic oxidized pyrite crop out at the northeast corner of the open cut. A middle adit, to the southeast of the open cut, trends N. 65 W. was caved at the portal but had a wooden gate that may have had open workings beyond it. It was not considered accessible. A third adit was to the southeast of the second, along an overgrown road down the hill. It was totally collapsed with timbers marking the portal. It trending N. 47 W. Vein on the dump was quartz, chalcopyrite, specular hematite (?), "cube iron", and epidote. A fourth adit was uphill from the two-track road leading to the cabin. It was totally sluffed and was dry. A possible mill building was found on the northeast side of Coyle Creek; it was totally flattened and no equipment remained. A log cabin at the upper open cut and adit was still standing in the summer of 2001, but leaned downhill. Two other entries in the MILS database plotted in sec. 04 (the Lucky Strike and the Goldbug (Tawney). It was not determined if they may be the same mine or not, but they may actually be duplicates.
