Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: SUPERIOR Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010204 Forest or Resource Area: LOLO Owner: P Impact: U Report: The Amazon-Dixie is also known by the name Copper Queen and is labeled on the Lookout Pass 7.5-min. quadrangle as the Sildex mine. It is located in ADCA sec. 04, T19N, R32W and is within a block of at least 11 patented claims. The disturbance is entirely on patented land but it was reported that the adit had a large discharge but that it never reached the creek. The adit has a large waste dump (several hundred tons) and the adit is open but gated. The waste dump is visible from Interstate 90 and the mine is very accessible from Forest Route 4208. Another adit is located up the trail to Copper Lake but is described as a separate mine (Copper Gulch) because it is not on patented ground; it may have been worked at the same time as the Amazon-Dixie, however. The property was described as "developing" in 1964 and in 1975 in MBMG mining directories but no other information was given. Wallace and Hosterman (1956) stated that the workings were in accessible; they associated the mine with the Silver Lake Fault. |
