Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: SUPERIOR Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010204 Forest or Resource Area: LOLO Owner: N Impact: U Report: This property was described as encompassing almost the entire length of Deer Creek which flows into the St. Regis River west of De Borgia (Lyden, 1948). No workings were exactly located in the area but Wallace and Hosterman (1956) described it being worked by hand, with "large piles of hand-sorted boulders" reflecting the difficulty of mining in the area. They stated that placer claims were patented on Deer Creek (Lyden, 1948 also states that 9 lode claims were staked near the head of Deer Creek), but no patented land is shown on the Forest Service map. The area was not visited because it is a placer and the location was inaccurate (+/-1 km). |
