Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: NINEMILE Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010204 Forest or Resource Area: LOLO Owner: N Impact: Report: Quote from McCulloch (1997), MBMG MC18, "Located at the mouth of Favorite Gulch on McCormick Creek, the Buddy Ellis placer continued operations through 1994, 1995, and 1996. The pay gravel is overlain by 4-5 feet of Glacial Lake Missoula clays and is under lain by the altered shale of the Prichard Formation. Assays are inconsistent but run up to 0.02 oz/ton gold in portions of the shale. The higher values may be associated with late-stage quartz veining. During 1994 and 1995, a trench was cut across the deposit and resources of auriferous gravel were exposed. The gravel section is approximately 8-10 ft thick and is exposed 60 ft on one side and 100 ft on the other side. A visible zone of manganese staining in the gravel represents an older aquifer surface. Some of the fine gold is coated with the manganese that lowers recovery rates. Ore processing has been steady to slow." |
