Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: MISSOULA Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010204 Forest or Resource Area: LOLO Owner: N Impact: U Report: The Swede prospect was visited on 05/22/01. It consisted of one totally collapsed, N15 W-trending adit in argillite, high on the slope above the second adit which was open. The lower adit was driven N10 E for approximately 70 ft. There was no discharge from either adit. Mayerle (1983) described the lower adit as being in a NW-striking diabase dike with disseminated pyrite and small quartz veins. The adits are in sec. 19, T14N, R18W on the Northeast Missoula 7.5-min. quadrangle. It is accessed by a very indistinct trail in the southwest corner of the section just north east of the main Rattlesnake Creek recreational trail and the smaller Spring Gulch trail. The open adit may be a concern because of its close proximity to the heavily used recreational trails, but its location is not easily found. The opening is 3 ft high by 4 ft wide. |
