Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020003 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: B Impact: Report: Black Ace (MA007253) The Black Ace consists of numerous open-cuts, caved adits, a shaft, and numerous dumps. The site is situated adjacent to a dry gulch; surface disturbance is approximately 2.5 acres. Host rock is Precambrian Pony Gneiss; many different varieties of gneiss are found at this site. A 2' to 6' pegmatite dike intrudes the gneiss and is in turn displaced by 2 faults (Johns, 1961). Ore minerals included native silver and gold with iron oxides in quartz veins (Johns, 1961). Dumps and exposed cuts exhibit varying degrees of iron-oxide staining. A sample from this site assayed 0.40% lead, 0.80% zinc, 0.06% copper, 1.30 ounces silver, and 2.06 ounces gold (Johns, 1961). Information on mining history and production was not found in the literature. This dry site is located on BLM land. |
