Report: Richmond Group (MA007187) Numerous adits, trenches, and dumps make up the Richmond Group workings. These mine workings are located on the north arm of Goodrich Gulch. Host rock is Cambrian Flathead Sandstone and Cambrian Woolsey Shale; ore deposits are quartz veins (with iron oxide veinlets) containing native gold (Johns, 1961). Iron oxide stained dump rock is only present-day sign of mineralization. The assay results of 19 samples collected from the Richmond Group workings are listed in Johns 1961 publication. Gold values range from a trace to 1.60 ounces per ton; silver values range from a trace to 3.0 ounces per ton (Johns, 1961). Production from the Richmond Group was probably substantial, given the area and extent of the workings. The workings of the Richmond Group are located on USFS land. Several dumps below caved adits are in contact with North Goodrich Gulch; an AIM plan map was made of these dumps. Johns also includes several plan maps of Richmond Group mine workings in his 1961 publication.
