Report: Lone Star Prospect (MA006866) The Lone Star workings are near the head of Wet Georgia Gulch. Caved adits, dumps of varying sizes, and the ruins of an ore shoot are found at this location. Host rock is Precambrian gneiss. A prominent white quartz vein approximately 30' thick is found near the workings; this vein strikes northeast. Johns indicated a smaller quartz vein 2"-3" thick was the gangue for this deposit. Ore minerals included galena, malachite, pyrite, and some azurite (Dingman, 1944). Chalcopyrite, pyrite, and galena were noted in quartz on the dumps in 1994. A sample from this mine assayed 2% lead, trace zinc, trace copper, 1.60 ounces silver, and 0.02 ounces gold (Johns, 1961). The lower levels of this mine were under water in 1944 ; the elevation of the water was equal to that in nearby Wet Georgia Gulch (Dingman, 1944). No water was noted on the surface in 1994 at this location. This site is located on USFS land. Underground maps of this mine exist in the MBMG files.
