Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: SHERIDAN Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: N Impact: Report: Cop Prospect (MA006857) The Cop Prospect includes workings on a dry east-facing hillside between the Corncracker Mine and Dry Georgia Gulch. Total surface disturbance is less than 1 acre; workings consist of pits, trenches, small dumps, and at least 1 (possibly 2) caved adits. Host rock is Precambrian Pony Gneiss and Cambrian Flathead Quartzite (Johns, 1961). This was primarily a gold and zinc prospect; mining explored a mineralized quartz vein. Johns lists several assay samples from this prospect in his 1961 publication; one sample contained 0.065 ounces of gold and 0.07% zinc (with traces of silver, copper, and lead). Information on production and mining history was not found in the literature. This dry site is located on USFS land. |
