Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: SHERIDAN Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: P Impact: U Report: Sunflower (MA006848) The Sunflower workings consist of several caved adits and accompanying moderately sized dumps. This mine is located northwest of the High Ridge; total surface disturbance is approximately 2 acres. Host rock is Precambrian gneiss; argentiferous galena, gold, and sphalerite was found in vein quartz (Johns, 1961). The vein strikes northeast and purportedly is displaced by a northeast-trending fault (Johns, 1961). Present-day signs of mineralization include limonite staining and traces of pyrite on the dump rock. Information regarding operational history and production for this site was not located in the literature. This dry site is located on USFS land. |
