Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: M Impact: Report: Bryzant/Dutchland (MA006845 = MA000685) The Bryzant or Dutchland workings consist of an incline shaft, adits, pits, and cuts spread over a 10 acre area. Two large dumps and multiple smaller dumps are found at this site. All underground workings are caved. Host rock is Precambrian Pony Gneiss (primarily granitic gneiss with lesser dark gneisses). Workings purportedly explored a vein containing galena, sphalerite, iron oxides and quartz; the vein trended N5W and dipped 80E (Johns, 1961). A pillar at the surface assayed 38% lead, 3% zinc, 0.08% copper, 2 ounces of silver, and 0.08 ounces of gold (Johns, 1961). This property operated during World War I, the late 1930's, and into the 1940's. Thirty-four tons of ore was shipped in 1945. The site is located on mixed private and public (BLM) land. |
