Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: SHERIDAN Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: N Impact: U Report: Emprire State-New York Prospect (MA006821/MA006791) The Empire State and New York workings are located on the east side of Dry Georgia Gulch. Surface disturbance is less than 1 acre for each of these sites (which are adjacent to each other). Host rock is Precambrian Pony Gneiss. In the case of the Empire State, a pegmatite dike rich in orthoclase was associated with the ore deposit. Gangue mineralogy is light-gray to white quartz. Lead, silver, and zinc were the principle ore minerals (Johns, 1961). Dumps contain quartz (as veins in gneiss) and exhibit moderate to heavy limonite staining. Johns published surface assay results for both of these sites in his 1961 publication. No information regarding operational history or production was found in the literature. These dry workings are found on USFS land. |
