Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: SHERIDAN Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: N Impact: Report: Red Bell (MA006818) The Red Bell workings consist of a caved adit with a fairly large dump near the head of Goodrich Gulch. Surface disturbance is approximately 1 acre. Host rock is Precambrian gneiss. Ore minerals included auriferous pyrite, argentiferous galena, and sphalerite in a quartz gangue ((Winchell, 1914). Present-day evidence of mineralization is largely restricted to limonite staining of dump rock. An AIM sample assayed 1845 ppm lead, 1760 ppm zinc, 80 ppm copper, 1.8 ppm silver, 0.0020 ounces gold, and 58 ppm arsenic. Judging from the size of the dump, production at this site was moderate. This dry site is located near Goodrich Gulch on USFS land; a small amount of waste rock has traveled toward but not reached the principle drainage. There is also a "Red Bell Nugget placer" in sec. 30, T.4S., R.3W. on Ramshorn Creek near upper Bivens Creek. There is no Red Bell placer in this AIM database. |
