Report: Schmidt Prospect (MA006815) The Schmidt Prospect workings consist of multiple caved adits and dumps. Surface disturbance coveres several acres. Host rock is Precambrian Pony Gneiss; mineralization includes iron oxides and a variety of sulfides in a quartz gangue. Oxidized ore rich in gold near the surface and underlying sulfides of low grade were reported at this site; minerals included cerussite, malachite, cuprite, chrysocolla, bornite, chalcopyrite, pyrite, and sphalerite (Winchell, 1914). An AIM sample assayed 3470 ppm lead, 27,000 ppm zinc, 32 ppm copper, 0.6 ppm silver, 0.0030 ounces gold, and 66 ppm arsenic. This property has been idle for a long period of time (Johns, 1961). The Schmidt Prospect workings are on a patented claim surrounded by USFS land (at the head of Goodrich Gulch). One dump is in partial contact with Goodrich Gulch Creek; a sketch map of this dump was made for the AIM program.
