Report: Bismark-Nugget Adits (MA006809) The Bismark-Nugget workings are located on a dry east-facing ridgeline. Workings consist of 2 caved adits and accompanying dumps. A cabin, in relatively good condition, is found adjacent to the workings. Total surface disturbance appears to be less than 1 acre. Host rock at this location appears to be Cambrian Flathead quartzite and Woolsey Shale; workings explored several fissure veins (Tansley, Schafer, and Hart, 1933). Ore minerals included malchite, azurite, and crysocolla in the oxidized zone and chalcopyrite, bornite, galena, pyrite, and sphalerite in the sulfide zone. Other vein minerals included quartz, molybdenite, hematite, and limonite (Tansley, Schafer, and Hart, 1933). Modern-day evidence of mineralization is limited to limonite staining. A sample from the caved adit area assayed 2.40% lead, 0.50% zinc, 0.20% copper, 2.60 ounces silver, and 0.16 ounces gold (Johns, 1961). Information on mining history and production was not found in the literature. This site is located on the upper portion of a dry N-S trending ridge; there is no water component. The Bismark-Nugget workings are located principally on USFS land.
