Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020003 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: S Impact: U Report: Fork (MA006794) The Fork mine consists of a caved shaft and an open adit. The workings are located along the north side of a drainage. Host rock is Precambrian gneiss (mostly granitic gneiss). This appears to be a vein deposit, possibly following a fault line (Johns, 1961). The rock at the head of the adit is intensely fractured. Assay information from several sampling locations at this site can be found in the literature; based on assay data, ore included lead, zinc, copper, silver, and gold (Johns, 1961). Operational history and production data was not found in the literature. A small spring is found directly below the open adit; some waste rock is in contact with the spring. This site is adjacent to but does not affect BLM land; all ownership appears to be State of Montana. A site (plan) map was prepared for the AIM program. |
