Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: SHERIDAN Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020005 Forest or Resource Area: BEAVERHEAD Owner: N Impact: L Report: Bismuth Prospect (MA006785) The Bismuth prospect consists of a caved adit and a moderately sized dump. Surface disturbance is less than 0.1 acre. Host rock is Precambrian Pony Gneiss (primarily granite gneiss with lesser granodiorite gneiss and tonalite gneiss). Mineralization on the dump includes sparse limonite staining and trace amounts of chalcopyrite or pyrite; the mineralization is localized in quartz veins. A sample from this site assayed trace lead, 1.80% zinc, trace copper, 0.10 ounces silver, and 0.08 ounces gold (Johns, 1961). Information on mining history and production was not found in the literature. This USFS site is located on the north arm of Goodrich Gulch. The lower portion of the dump is in contact with a spring-fed drainage. A plan map of the site was made for the AIM program. |
