Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020003 Forest or Resource Area: DILLON Owner: B Impact: Report: Union (MA003253) The Union Mine workings are located near the head of a gulch south of Wet Georgia drainage. Principle workings consist of two open adits (gated) and a linear vertical shaft (grated) situated above and north of the adits. There are also trenches, pits, and possible caved adits with dumps; a large dump area is found below the gated adits. Total surface disturbance in the area is approximately 5 acres. Host rock is Precambrian Gneiss cut by a pegmatite dike of granitic composition (potassium feldspar, quartz, mica, and tourmaline). Loen (1984) indicated gold ore was mined at this site. Dump rock contains coarasely crystalline white quartz and potassium feldspar; most dump rock exhibits some degree of limonite staining. An AIM sample assayed 68 ppm lead, 140 ppm zinc, 32 ppm copper, 0.6 ppm silver, trace gold, and 66 ppm arsenic. Production data and operational history is lacking for this mine. This dry site is on BLM land. |
