Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: LIBBY Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010101 Forest or Resource Area: KOOTENAI Owner: N Impact: Report: This site was screened out because no workings were present and the commodity was silicon. A quote from Johns (1960) p. 47 states ....."Two wollastonite (CaSiO3) veins striking N. 30 degrees W. were mapped near the center of sec. 3, T. 30 N., R. 30 W. on the south side of Kennedy Gulch. The poorly-exposed and unexplored veins, about a quarter mile apart, are each at least 2 feet wide. A sample of oxidized material from the outcrop assayed 42 percent calcium oxide, 45.80 percent silica, 3.90 percent alumina oxide, 5 percent carbon dioxide, 1.20 percent ferric oxide, and 0.50 percent ferrous oxide. Magnesium oxide content was nil in the sample." |
