Report: Jumbo Mine LA004952 The Jumbo Mine is located on a ridge above the West Fork of Dayton Creek in section 6, T25N, R21W (Proctor quadrangle). The mine was discovered prior to 1916 and development began in 1918 when an adit was driven along a vuggy-quartz vein containing galena, malachite, azurite, and chalcopyrite (Johns, 1964). Additional development included sinking a shaft on the extension of the vein approximately a quarter of a mile west of the adit. MBMG visited the mine in September 2000. The portal to the adit was collapsed except for a small opening (6" x 12") that exposed some of the mine timbers. The adit was dry with no evidence of discharge and was not accessible. The adit trends approximately N 35 W. The dump below the adit is mostly vegetated. Waste rock is gray argillite with some quartz fragments containing sparse malachite and iron oxides. A rusted compressor, ruins of a cabin, and scattered boards are located near the adit. No others structures or environmental hazards were noted. Other workings associated with the Jumbo Mine are a shaft and several prospect pits located along the ridge top, to the west of the adit. The shaft is within a disturbed area approximately 180' long x 60' wide that also included a large pile of waste rock and a trench that trends N 85 W. The shaft is open to a depth of approximately 60'. Wooden timbers cover part of the opening and a loose, barbed-wire fence has been constructed around the shaft. Copper sulfides and quartz are evident in the waste rock. There is no water at this site and there appeared to be no environmental concerns.
