Report: Lower Bullion Mill and Smelter A mile west of the Bullion mine on a small tributary of Jack Creek, the Lower Bullion Mill and Smelter processed ores from the Bullion from 1902 to at least 1907 (Ruppel, 1963). Although the mill and smelter are on Deerlodge Forest land, tailings were settled in the floodplain of Jack Creek where they presently lie on private land and are bisected by the creek....Water downstream?....... At the smelter site are approximately 500 tons of slag which emits high (5+ times background) levels of gamma radiation. Apparently, the anomalous uranium present in the Bullion vein has been concentrated in the slag by smelting. No water is present at the site.
