Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: JEFFERSON Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020006 Forest or Resource Area: DEERLODGE Owner: P Impact: L Report: Sport (Lone Bear) The Sport Lode is located on the contact between quartz monzonite of the Boulder Batholith and Mission Canyon limestone. Ore occurs as eplacement lenses parallel to bedding (N45W 60 SW) and contains jasperoid, hematite, limonite, garnet, magnetite, and galena (USGS, 1978). The ore exposed is oxidized and of low grade; a secondarily enriched zone may occur below. The mine includes 4 caved adits with a combined length of less than 1000 feet, 2 open shafts, and serveral pits and trenches. A large volume of water emerges from beneath one dump, but this appears to be a pre-existing natural spring. |
