Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020006 Forest or Resource Area: DEERLODGE Owner: N Impact: Report: Blue Diamond/Occidental (Totten?) No information exists in the literature for this area. The site is on the western extension of the Bluebird-Pen Yan vein system and consists of two caved adits on Hoodoo Creek, each about 500 feet long, and numerous short adits and prospect pits. The workings explore two parallel west-trending veins 1000 feet apart. The host rock is Elkhorn Mountain tuff which locally contains quartz, sericite, and pyrite alteration products. A chip sample across 3 feet of brecciated quartz and gossan on the west end of the north vein ran only .014 oz/ton Au and .83 oz/ton Ag (see map). The two main adits discharge water. The dump associated with the north adit contains 600 tons of altered tuffs with very low metal values (see map), and 300 tons of unaltered volcanic rock. The south dump contains 1000 tons of altered tuff with .042 oz/ton Au, 1.14 oz/ton Ag, .119% Cu, .760% Pb, and .056% Zn. The entire area is on Deerlodge National Forest. |
