Report: Roby and others (1960) stated the Mitchell Placer was the largest in the McClellan District. IT went from ground sluicing before 1939 to a stationary wash-plant on the Lewis placer in 1939. Production from 35,000 cubic yards of gravel (1939-1940) yielded 302 fine ounces of gold and some silver ; all totaled valued at $10,599.
