Report: Morning Star Three caved adits follow parallel N60W quartz-pyrite breccia zones in layered porphyritic tuff of Elkhorn Mountain Volcanics age. Pardee and Schrader (1933) and Ruppel (1963) also reported minor galena, sphalerite, arsenopyrite, tetrahedrite, and chalcopyrite, although base metals yielded from the 65 tons of ore produced (Roby and others, 1960) indicate that these minerals must be minor constituents indeed. A select sample (JJMS-1) of pyrite-rich breccia ran 0.048 Au, 2.14 Ag, 0.021% Cu, 0.20 % Pb, and 0.034% Zn. Knopf (1913) related that the richest part of the vein was a 2.5 inch streak of mainly galena that carried 40 oz/ton silver, $3.80 oz/ton gold, and 50% lead. This site is on a dry hillside on private land.
