Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: BUTTE Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020006 Forest or Resource Area: DEERLODGE Owner: N Impact: Report: Montreal Star The Montreal Star was reclaimed in 1994. Openings were covered and buildings torn down. Unpublished maps in MBMG files show that workings consisted of a 112 foot shaft with a 100 foot drift, and a portal with 600 feet of associated tunnels. The orebody consisted of a five-foot wide, N65E 5 SE vein, as well as several thinner east-west veins (Roby and others, 1960). It is hosted by granodiorite and aplite of the Boulder Batholith, and the vein has been cut by a fault on one end that places plutonic rock in contact with Lowland Creek rhyolite. Vein minerals include quartz, pyrite, pyrrhotite, tourmaline, arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, and bismuthinite. Assay values from 13 samples ranged from .005 to .03 ounces per ton gold, .30 to 14.18 ounces per ton silver, .2 to 3.43% copper, up to 4.6% lead, and a trace to .04% bismuth (MBMG files). |
