Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: JEFFERSON Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10020006 Forest or Resource Area: DEERLODGE Owner: P Impact: L Report: Klondyke (Elkhorn District) Replacement zones in silicified Jefferson dolomite along bedding and cross-cutting shears in silicified Jefferso dolomite adjacent to the Cretaceous, gabbroic Black Butte Stock was mined at the Klondyke (Klepper and others, 1957). The ore contained diopside, tremolite, calcite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, and gold-bearing tellurides. The mine was a small producer; from 1915 to 1957 it produced 609 tons of ore from which 539 oz of gold, 309 oz of silver, 8,640 lbs of copper, and 567 lbs of lead were recovered (Roby and others, 1960). The property contains only dry workings that include a 100-foot adit and 3 shafts. |
