Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: PHILIPSBURG Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 17010202 Forest or Resource Area: DEERLODGE Owner: N Impact: Report: Minnie Lee Like most mines of the Silver Lake district, the Minnie Lee was originally worked in the 1890's for its silver content. However, it was re-examined in the 1950's as a tunsten target (Walker, 1960). A caved adit less than 100 feet long and some pits trace a N40-50W, southwest-dipping vein of vuggy quartz, calcite, scheelite, chalcocite, and iron oxide in slightly silicified Jefferson dolomite. The vein can be followed along strike for at least 100 feet, is 1 foot thick, and extends down dip for over 25 feet. WO3 content averages 4.2% (Walker, 1960). MBMG's select sample of vein material contained .006 oz/ton gold, 10.3 oz/ton silver, 0.19% copper, 0.38% lead, and 0.047% sphalerite (zinc). |
