Report: According to Robin McCulloch, MBMG, this property was investigated by the US Bureau of Mines for titanium, rare earths, and radioactive mineralization (Holt, 1964). No workings or disturbance were observed. Holt (1964) stated that the placer was derived from granite of the Idaho Batholith and deposited upstream of (and "behind") moraine boulders that blocked drainages. There are some quartzite pebbles in the alluvium here. It was sampled by the US Bureau of Mines in 1954 with the results in Report of Investigations 6365. A report in the MBMG files from the private company, Western Fluorite Mining Company of Warren, Arkansas conducted a drilling program at the property in 1957, and their promotional report stated they found 130 pounds of black sand concentrate per yard, with values in columbite, samarskite, xenotime and magnetite. They estimated the total deposit to consist of 60 million yards of workable ground. It is unlikely that this property would affect land administered by the Forest Service.
