Report: Sierra (GR003466) The Sierra workings consist of numerous caved workings (including 2 adits and an incline), prospect pits, and small dumps. The workings are located northeast of Garnet in dense forest. Total surface disturbance is approximately 1.5 acres. Host rock is granodiorite; workings explore a vein which strikes north and dips 30 degrees west (Pardee, 1918). Coarsely crystalline quartz forms the gangue; the only present-day evidence of mineralization is limonite staining. Ore minerals included pyrite and tetrahedrite in the sulfide zone and limonite with secondary copper minerals in the oxidized zone (Pardee, 1918). This gold-copper prospect had a small production of medium-grade ore (Pardee, 1918). This dry BLM site poses no apparent environmental threats.
