Report: Lowery-Tiger (GR003284/GR000260) The Lowery and Tiger workings are found in Williams Gulch a short distance south of the Nancy Hanks mine. Workings consist of trenches, pits, and waste rock dumps. The literature indicates a 300' incline and 1000' of drifts on 4 levels (Pardee, 1918). All underground workings were caved in 1994. Host rock is Precambrian Belt limestone recrystallized to marble (and altered to garnet-epidote rock in places). On the Tiger, a vein striking N-NE and dipping at a low angle was mined; ore was said to be similar to the "red ore" zone of the Nancy Hanks mine (Pardee, 1918). Signs of mineralization at these two sites include limonite staining on the dump rock and fragments of garnet-epidote rock (somewhat similar to that found at Top O' Deep only with a higher epidote fraction). One carload of ore from the Tiger averaged 22.5 ounces of gold and 25 ounces of silver; this was the richest single shipment from the Garnet Mining District. Pardee estimated a total production for the Tiger of $40,000.00 (Pardee, 1918). Later production was reported to be 3 tons per day (of 1/4" screenings from old gobs) (Trauerman and Waldron, 1940). No production figures were found for the Lowery. The workings observed on these patented claims were dry and did not appear to pose environmental hazards.
