Report: Gold Leaf (GR003054) The Gold Leaf workings consist of a caved shaft, several prospect pits, and several small to moderately sized dumps (possibly lying below completely caved adits). Total surface disturbance is approximately 1 acre. This deposit is at the contact between limestone and granodiorite; the limestone has been altered to a light-gray to white marble. A garnet-epidote-magnetite rock similar to that at the Boston Mine is also present on the dump rock. The granodiorite has minor quartz veins probably acting as a gangue. There is slight to moderate limonite staining on the dump rock and traces of malachite and chrysocolla. Pardee reported granodiorite with quartz veins as the host rock. Irregular masses of limonite with free gold, some pyrite and minor chalcopyrite were reported (Pardee, 1918). Ore purportedly extended from the surface down to approximately 40' (Pardee, 1918). A 3' channel sample (including 6" of vein material) assayed 0.44 ounces of gold and 0.15 ounces of silver; the same vein was nearly barren at the end of the adit (Kauffman, 1963). Litte information regarding history and production of this mine was found in the literature. It seems likely that most of the mining activity at this location was before the turn of the century. Dump size indicates a moderate amount of ore was produced. This patented claim poses no environmental hazards; there is no water component.
