Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: Forest or Resource Area: GARNET Owner: P Impact: U Report: Magone and Anderson (GR003049) The Magone and Anderson mine adjoins the Grant and Hartford claim on the southeast. Workings, as observed in 1994, consisted of 1 partially caved adit, several completely caved adits, and multiple dumps; the ruins of several cabins are found on this claim. Estimated surface disturbance is 5 acres. Host rock appears to be granodiorite, granodiorite gneiss, and schists. The workings explore a vein striking slightly north of due west and dipping 30 degrees north (Pardee, 1918). Gangue mineralogy appears to be white to pinkish, partially vuggy quartz. Iron-oxide staining is the only apparent, present-day evidence of mineralization. Minerals reported in the literature include pyrite and tetrahedrite (Pardee, 1918). Smelter receipts for ore sorted from dumps in 1914 indicated gold values ranging from 0.5 to 5.5 ounces of gold, 0.10 to 6.5 ounces of silver, and a trace of copper (Pardee, 1918). Considerable work was done on this claim prior to 1910; the most productive period for this site was 1911-1914. Pardee estimated total production at or in excess of $300,000.00 (Pardee, 1918). The Magone-Anderson patented claim is located on an apparently dry ridge; there appears to be no environmental concerns here. |
