Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10040101 Forest or Resource Area: GARNET Owner: P Impact: U Report: Fairview (GR003019) The Fairview mine consists of a caved adit and a relatively large dump; it is situated immediately adjacent to the Cave Gulch road. Total surface disturbance is less than 2 acres. Host rock at this location is Precambrian micaceous schist and banded quartzite. Gangue mineralogy appears to be milky quartz; the only apparent sign of mineralization is relatively uniform limonite staining on dump rock. Native gold, tellurides of gold and silver, and bismuth were reported from this location (Pardee, 1918). Assays, late in the history of the mine, averaged 1.10 ounces of gold and 0.77 ounces of silver per ton (Pardee, 1918). Records covering the period 1898 to 1907 show a production of over $50,000.00 (Pardee, 1918). It appears that this patented claim has been inactive for a considerable period of time. A small volume, freshwater spring issues from the collapsed adit area (or immediately west of it), flows a short distance across part of the dump, and sinks underground. The water is clear and there are no signs of mineralization along the flow course. |
