Report: Lynx (GR002974) The Lynx workings are found on a dry slope above Cayuse Gulch Creek; they consist of a caved adit and a fairly large dump. Total surface disturbance is less than 1 acre. Host rock at this location is Precambrian Belt quartzite (Garnet Range Formation?). This was a vein deposit with gangue mineralogy consisting chiefly of white, partially vuggy quartz. The vein ranged in thickness from 1' to 3'. The strike of the vein was S80W; it dipped 75S. Evidence of mineralization on the dump rock includes limonite staining, minor pyrite, and minor malachite. A moderate quantity of ore stoped 80' from the portal (for 30') purportedly assayed about $80.00 per ton (Pardee, 1918). This dry site is located on a patented claim. A geologic-location map showing vein deposits at the head of Elk Creek can be found in USGS Bulletin 660-F (Pardee, 1918).
