Report: Stone Placer (GR000290) The Stone Placer workings are located on the divide between Cayuse and Day Gulches. Workings consist of open cuts and trenches. The workings explore a paleo-placer deposit consisting of reddish clay with quartzite cobbles and gravel. Placer gold occurs as small particles in this deposit (Pardee, 1918). Small scale placer mining was reported in 1918 (Pardee, 1918); judging from the fresh appearance of the workings, activity has continued to present day. No information regarding production from this property was found in the literature. This site, which lies on BLM and patented land, is dry and poses no apparent environmental concerns.
