Report: Shamrock (GR000254) The Shamrock claim is located near Williams Gulch a short distance northwest of Garnet ghost town. Most of the area has been reclaimed (i.e. recountoured and reseeded). A moderately sized dump is present on this claim; it appears that the dump rock has been hauled here from an adjoining claim. At one time there was a 350' deep incline with levels aggregating more than 1200' (Pardee, 1918). Host rock is granodiorite; this was a vein deposit with white quartz forming the gangue. The only present-day indication of mineralization is limonite staining on some waste rocks. This site was discovered in 1867; most of the mining activity took place in the 1800's and early 1900's. The mine was closed in 1916 and idle at least to 1918 (Pardee, 1918). Some activity may have been undertaken since that time (prior to reclamation). Production of more than $100,000.00 was reported to 1916 (Pardee, 1918). This dry site appears to lie on both patented and BLM land. A cross-section (longitudinal map) can be found in USGS Bulletin 660-F (Pardee, 1918).
