Agency: BLM Region District: BUTTE Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: Forest or Resource Area: GARNET Owner: B Impact: Report: Elk Creek (GR000242) The Elk Creek workings consist of at least 2, possibly 3, collapsed adits, 2 moderate-sized dumps, and several prospect pits. Workings are located on a dry northeast facing hillside. A cabin in fair condition is located near the workings. Total surface disturbance is approximately 2 acres. Host rock is Precambrian Belt quartzite (Garnet Range Formation?). Gangue mineralogy appears to be quartz; it occurs in narrow veins. The only apparent sign of mineralization on the dump rock and wall rock is limonite staining. The USBM reported that this was a gold prospect (USBM database). There is no water component at this BLM site. |
