Report: Cottonwood The Cottonwood consists of one caved shaft, one caved adit, and one open decline, with less than 100 feet of total workings. They apparently tested N.5E.-striking vein of quartz and iron oxide in granite of the Boulder Batholith. Dumps are mostly unaltered and vegetated. Possibly, at the location shown on the map, there is a small, completely caved shaft, not an adit as shown on the map. The dump is small and both the shaft and dump are completely overgrown. There is a mostly dry swamp about 100 yards down the hill with the remains of two cabins. The vein material is fine grained, white to black quartz. Another site: small adit, 100 yards S20W of the Cottonwood Mine (or maybe this is the Cottonwood). The adit is completely caved and dry. The dump is 20 feet by 20 feet by 4 feet thick average. No sample taken. The adit strikes N55E. The country rock is granite, the vein material is sulfide-stained brecciated quartz. Both the dump and adit are completely overgrown with 75 year old plus pines. About 30 yards to the east is another adit, still open and dry. The adit declines at approximately a 20% grade. The adit strikes N52E. The mineralogy of the dump is the same.
