Agency: NF Region District: R1 Ranger District: KINGS HILL Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10030105 Forest or Resource Area: LEWIS AND CLARK Owner: P Impact: L Report: At the Ripple site, the safety hazards included three open adits, a collapsing loadout structure, and a collapsing cabin. There were not any mill tailings. The volume of waste rock was estimated to be 6,100 cubic yards and contained silver, arsenic, barium, cadmium, copper, mercury, lead, and zinc. Four discharging adits were observed but not any of the flows reached surface water. The discharge from adit #1 exceeded the MCLs for arsenic and cadmium and from adit #3 the MCL for cadmium was exceeded. The Ripple mine is located about 2 miles northeast of Neihart in the upper Snow Creek Valley (Robertson, 1951). The development work includes four main adits and two short adits. Several ore shoots were developed from the lower ore shoot. The vein is 2 to 4 feet in width. |
