Agency: BLM Region District: MILES CITY Ranger District: Forest Service Tract: Watershed Code: 10080010 Forest or Resource Area: BILLINGS Owner: B Impact: U Report: Swamp Frog CB000747 The Swamp Frog Mine consists of surface and underground workings covering approximately 15 acres. There are at least two open adits, multiple surface pits and cuts, and multiple waste rock dumps. Two dilapidated mining shacks are also found at this location. Host rock is Permian Phosphoria formation; most of the workings appear to explore the upper portion of the section. The lithology consists of argillaceous, limy, cherty dolomite with some phosphatic dolomite. There is scant evidence of uranium mineralization on the dump rock in the form of carnotite(?) films; other signs of mineralization include iron oxide staining. This probable stratiform(?) deposit appears to be the most substantial in the area based on the extent of the workings. Most of the workings are located in a dry strike-valley; prospect pits and trenches are found on the adjacent ridges. All workings are dry; all disturbances are located on BLM land. |
