Report: Unnamed Gold CB000435 An unnamed paleo-placer gold mine (?) is found southwest of the mountain front on the Bear Canyon 7.5' map. This site consists of a 8' diameter shaft driven along a dry drainage. The shaft is open to a depth of approximately 10 feet but is fenced and poses no significant hazard. The host rock is Quaternary(?) gravels principally derived from the Phosphoria formation. The MILS inventory lists this mine as a placer gold deposit; in reality, it appears to be little more than an exploration shaft - there is no waste rock dump and operations seem to have been insubstantial. The shaft and adjacent drainage are dry; no environmental problems are posed by this site. This site is located on BLM land.
