Report: North of Trail Creek, west of the Big Hole National Battlefield. This short stretch of placered ground is labeled as "dredge tailings" on the topo map. There is probably less than 1,000 ft of dryland dredge piles east of USFS road 1203. The 5-10 gpm flow in the creek was mostly undisturbed by the placering. The associated lithology is a quartz-rich intrusive. Well rounded cobbles are of the intrusive, with a few light marroon quartzite cobbles. There had been recent small holes dug for testing the ground in 2011. A small, breached earthen dam and a log cabin in very poor condition were present at the head of the disturbance. All on USFS administered land.
